Renovating a bathroom: Guide to Overhauling a Tired Space

Renovating your bathroom can be a daunting task. There are so many things to consider: the layout, the design, the colours, the materials… where do you start?

Renovating Your Bathroom Doesn’t Need to Be Stressful!

Renovating your existing bathroom can be a daunting task. There are so many things to consider: budget, layout, design, colours, the materials… where do you start? In this article, we will take you through a step-by-step guide on how to renovate your bathroom. We will also provide some helpful tips and advice along the way. So whether you are just starting out on your renovation journey or you are nearing the end, read on for some invaluable information!

Aside from the kitchen. bathroom remodelling is likely to be the biggest priority for a house, rarely does it get the attention of the whole our family! Nonetheless today we expect surprisingly good things about our bathroom facilities. Not simply do we want the sanctums to be fulfilled, but we also wish that the restorative spaces be tranquil. A cold, poorly designed bathroom begins or ends the day in a bad place, while the elegant and well-stocked bathroom will make it much more comfortable than any room at home.

Organise your tradespeople

Find recommendations from friends and family regarding fittings. Always seek a reference from someone and you should ensure you pick someone you trust as they might be at home for some time. Remember that the cheapest can't necessarily lead to the finest service. If you want to remove walls or replace existing doors or joists, check with your local building control office if your building needs approval. Purchase a suite or furniture from a reputable retailer such as Cranleigh Bathroom Studios, who can also help with the installation, which could ultimately save you money.

Consider The Basics

First, determine your budget and stick to it. This will help guide your decisions and prevent any overspending or surprises down the line. Next, consider the layout of your bathroom and how you want it to function. Do you want a bathtub or just a shower? Are there any specific features you want to include, such as a heated floor or a vanity mirror?

Once you have an idea of the layout and functionality, it’s time to choose your materials and finishes. Consider the colour scheme and pick out tiles, fixtures, and accessories that complement each other. You may also want to research different manufacturers and brands to see what options are available for your budget range.

Choose a layout

While it may appear intimidating, having a proper bath design from the beginning will determine whether it is an excellent design or just sufficient. Also, transferring waste via water pipe can cost more than necessary. Replacing fittings and flooring with tiled or coloured wall surfaces will provide a more innovative feel. If the layouts are wrong then consider the ways of making small but efficient changes. Removing doors or adjusting sliding doors can help with increasing the space.

There are a few steps to designing a bathroom layout, such as considering the functionality of the space and how you want it to be used (shower, bathtub, etc.). It’s important to measure the dimensions of your bathroom and plan out where each fixture will go and keep in mind any necessary plumbing or electrical work that may need to be done. Finally, consider the layout from a design perspective and incorporate elements like storage, lighting, and aesthetics. Working with a professional designer or architect can also be helpful in designing the perfect layout for your space. Next, it’s time to start the actual renovation process. This will involve removing old fixtures and materials, levelling bathroom floors, and installing new ones. It’s important to create a schedule of work so you can plan out the timeline and ensure everything is done in a timely and efficient manner. Don’t forget to factor in any necessary building permits or inspections, as well as the cost of hiring professional contractors if needed.

Ask experts

When it comes to designing bathroom plans, it is best to seek professional advice early in the process. Visit bathroom showrooms and websites as the company will be able to tell you about modern materials and technologies, as well as offering many options for tiny spaces in bathrooms. Furthermore, they will possess extensive experience in maximising space and also minimising costly errors. Once the budget and plan is complete, visit an experienced showroom such as Cranleigh Bathroom Studios.

What bathroom design should I consider for the size of the room?

The size of the room may limit certain design options, but there are still many ways you can make the most of a small or large space. For smaller bathrooms, consider incorporating storage solutions and making use of vertical space. In larger bathrooms, adding luxury features like a freestanding tub or separate shower and bath area. Ultimately, it’s important to consider the layout and functionality that best suits your needs and fits within your budget.

Factor in storage

Storage plays an essential part for successful bathrooms, but minimal glass shelves won't suffice! Keep the design clean by hiding away everyday essentials, so there should be no shampoo bottles sitting in the bathroom! The vanity has plenty of storage and a large closet for towels and think about other innovative ideas for storage, such as turning ordinary bookshelves into bathroom storage. Mirror cabinets can also allow for the storage and charging of toothbrushes and electric razor batteries.

What are some cost-effective ways to renovate a bathroom?

Some cost-effective renovation ideas include using budget-friendly materials, reusing fixtures or features that can still be functional, and doing some of the work yourself instead of hiring contractors. It may also help to set priorities for your renovation project and focus on updating key elements.

What are the latest trends in bathroom design?

Some current trends in bathroom design include incorporating natural elements and materials, using bold colors and patterns, adding statement lighting fixtures, and focusing on creating a spa-like atmosphere. Technology is also becoming increasingly popular with options such as heated floors and integrated music systems. However, it’s important to consider personal preferences and choose designs that fit your individual style and needs.

What are the most popular bathroom tile designs?

Some popular bathroom tile designs include subway tiles, hexagon tiles, and herringbone patterns. Popular colors for bathroom tiles currently include shades of gray, white, and neutral tones, as well as black and navy accents. Ultimately, the best design and color will vary depending on individual preferences and the overall style of the bathroom.

Is it easy to install free-standing baths?

This will depend on the specific type of free-standing bath and the current layout of the bathroom. It’s always a good idea to consult with a professional to ensure proper installation and to determine if any extra modifications or preparations may be necessary. In some cases, hiring a professional contractor may be necessary for a successful installation.

Setting a budget

You can start with a budget for bathroom renovation after deciding on bathroom supplies. It is necessary to consider the following costs: sanitary equipment and fitted furniture; wall and floor coverings; lighting and ventilation; and installation costs. The pricing of fixtures and fittings may differ considerably depending upon the manufacturer of the product or its installation. The labour cost varies likewise depending upon the size of your bathrooms and the plumbing work that your home requires.

Decide what level of service you need

Generally, this depends upon your budget. Cranleigh Bathroom Studios offers turnkey services including everything to the design and installation of a bathroom and will also help decorate as part of the overall budget. While it may not be the most economical option, it can repay your project quickly and easily. Alternatively, you can design it yourself or hire a plumber or builder. It takes more time for you to produce the finished look, but it will cost less. Bear in mind, that there's nothing better than to see the product in person, so take a chance to visit showrooms.

What are the costs of renovating a bathroom?

The cost of renovating a bathroom will vary depending on factors such as the size of the space, the materials and fixtures chosen, and whether or not professional contractors are hired. In general, budget £3,000-£5,000 for a basic renovation and £10,000+ for a high-end overhaul.

Which bathroom manufacturers should I choose?

Ultimately, the best manufacturer will depend on your specific needs, budget, and personal preferences. Some options to consider when researching and comparing manufacturers include Burlington, Laufen, Vitra, and Roper Rhodes. Thomas Crapper are well-known brands, but may have a higher price point. It’s a good idea to also consult with professionals and browse design showrooms for additional options and ideas.

How do you level bathroom floors?

If your bathroom floors are uneven, there are a few steps you can take to level them. First, remove any old flooring or tiles and clean the surface thoroughly. Next, apply self-levelling compound to the surface using a trowel or squeegee. Allow it to dry according to the product instructions and then apply your new flooring of choice. It’s important to note that this process can be difficult and time-consuming, so hiring a professional contractor may be necessary.

What colour schemes are great for a bathroom?

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing a bathroom colour scheme. Some popular options include neutral tones like white, grey, and beige or bolder colours like blue or green. It’s ultimately up to your personal preference and what complements the overall design of your bathroom. You can also consider incorporating accent colours through tiles, accessories, or other features. Have fun with it and make the space your own!

Storage solutions - BIG or small

Storage solutions - BIG or small

If you are in need of bathroom storage ideas keep reading!

There are things you need in a bathroom, and there are things you want in a bathroom.

Bathrooms are often one of the smallest rooms in the house, yet they require ample storage, especially for large families. It’s generally where people store their towels, toiletries, cleaning products, hair care products, and whatever else you might imagine, all of which need their own distinct space.

Proper bathroom storage solutions are absolutely essential enabling you to  keep your space clutter free, but also enhance the aesthetic of your bathroom.

So, from the obvious to more concealed tips and tricks, here are some of the very best on-trend storage solutions to consider implementing in your bathroom

Bathroom cabinets are available in a wide variety of styles to suit any bathroom layout and décor.

In order to achieve an eye-catching look brimming with both personality and practicality though, it is best to get creative with your cabinet choice.

Some are available with or without an in-built LED light, they can be compact wall mounted box cabinets that offer adequate storage room and sharp designer style to enhance any bathroom.

You can make a statement with glamourous Graphite finished pieces that are available or the gorgeous neutral tones also available with freestanding vanity units, fabulous fitted cabinets to give your bathroom storage that stylish finish.

On the shelf

If bathroom storage space is at a premium, you can add open shelves to your design and utilise vertical space that might otherwise be wasted. High-level shelves can use the space above sinks, baths and toilets for storing towels and toiletries, and it can also be used to showcase decor pieces.

GET TO GRIPS WITH HANDLE-FREE DRAWERS

Handle free, clutter free. One of the simplest yet most effective ways to keep a bathroom space clutter free is via the introduction of handle-free drawers.

The design of customised, handle-free drawers mean they don’t intrude on their surroundings whatsoever, and offer a clean, seamless finish as well as ample storage room.

FIND SPACE, ADD AN ALCOVE

You really don’t need much space at all to sneak this storage hack into an ultra-compact bathroom or en-suite area.

Just find a narrow gap, and fit a row of shelves, no matter how contracted the width of the alcove actually is.

Towel ladders

Towel ladders are great for smaller bathrooms as they barely take up any floor space. Tall ones can support multiple towels, and there are even ones that come equipped with a shelf at the very top where toiletries and small decor items can be stored. The best part is they are fairly inexpensive and easy to install in any bathroom, making them a safe choice.

CREATE A SHOWER CUBBY

Now, this could prove one of the more invasive procedures to scope out added storage rooms and improve a bathroom aesthetic in one fell swoop.

Regardless, it’s still an excellent option to keep your shower neat, organised and clean, all the while maintaining a slick, smooth appearance.

Sharp design lines make for an ultra-modern look, so sticking with square or rectangular integrated cubbies is probably the best way to instil a contemporary bathroom flavour that is right on trend.

At Cranleigh bathroom studios we have a vast range of storage solutions to suit any bathroom and any need. Pop in or give us a call on 01483 272727

On Trend Bathroom Spaces

On Trend Bathrooms

The 2022 trends dictate a bathroom rich in personality and colour, a room to make full use of, thanks to new functionalities, well-designed space and practical materials pleasant to the touch.

The bathroom is a multi-sensorial experience not just another room in the house, but what are the trends for bathrooms and what’s essential in a bathroom?

Soft, sinuous lines

Curves are back, decor solutions featuring rounded items and patterns inspired by soft, undulating lines are to the fore: the trend is clearly in contrast to the clean-cut, defined lines of the square, rigorous shapes featured up to now.

Texture

The 2022 trendy bathroom is a triumph of materials that evoke pleasant sensations when touched.  Ceramic is still one of the most popular materials, stoneware, marble, wood and all the other engineered agglomerates provide an infinite range of aesthetic and design solutions.  There is a wide choice of both tops and washbasins, as well as finishes on cabinets or shower trays: the bathroom becomes a blank canvas on which to express flair and personality.

Scenic lighting

Lighting is a fundamental element in trendy bathrooms. It is no longer just illumination; modern suspended lights, scenic LEDs outlining the mirror, and slim luminous lines make lighting a complementary décor item that completes interior design.

The WELL BEING zone

2022 definitely consecrate the bathroom as a haven of well being, a private oasis dedicated to relaxing. This area destined for personal pampering cannot be without a large designer shower or a modern bathtub in which to stimulate well being.

Spa-like features create the calm, soft environment needed to switch off and unwind. Luxury finishes such as tiled shower pans using detailed mosaic tile, euro style shower doors featuring thicker glass, minimal framing create the perfect space.

Practicality

Contemporary bathrooms keep an eye on the latest interior design trends, but are above all functional and designed to satisfy the needs of a frenetic lifestyle.  Units and modules help to organise cosmetics and linen, linear surfaces are easy to maintain, and elegant handles come with comfortable grip. Closed or open units are used to create lively, original solutions.

Scenic Murals

Bathrooms are now less confined to clinical all white walls and a contemporary feel throughout. Clean lines and modern bathrooms are being complimented with confident, bold designs on walls or in little alcoves. Statement walls are no longer there to just wow guests in entrance rooms.  Adding colour, intricate murals and hand-drawn scenes will add to the spa-like feel in the bathroom and add to the relaxation experience.

A Touch of Glitz and Glamour - Rose Gold

Could the romantic, blush-tinted tones of rose gold take your bathroom design to the next level?

Could the romantic, blush-tinted tones of rose gold take your bathroom design to the next level?

Rose gold, also known as pink gold, is a combination of classic gold, silver and copper metals. This delicate mix creates a beautifully warm pink hue that goes well with everything, especially in the bathroom. Designed to offer the same effortless style as a classic metallic shade, fittings with a rose gold finish exude luxury and elegance, perfect for those looking to upgrade their space.

Stunning rose gold bathroom taps and showers prove this gorgeous shade is suitable for more than jewellery and smartphones.

This beautiful sunrise-tinged colour that has remained popular since it emerged with the rosy tone now present in many bathroom fittings, fixtures and accessories, it’s a wonderful way to add a depth and warmth of colour to your bathroom – not to mention a focal point! Here are a few ideas for making the rose gold bathroom of your dreams.

Rose gold bathroom tiling

Rose gold bathroom tiles are a beautiful way to adorn your walls and floors with a chic blush metallic shine.

They are an easy way to start incorporating rose gold bathroom accents into your bathroom’s overall look.

For those that are feeling bolder and more adventurous, or have a taste for sparkle, rose gold bathroom grout is a fun way to add a pop of metallic rose gold to the space between your tiles. This can be found in either a muted or sparkly finish, and makes a beautiful contrast with coloured tiles

Distinctive rose gold bathroom accessories

Rose gold shines brightest when used as accents around the bathroom, and this is easy to do with rose gold accessories and taps. If you want simple touches of colour you can try smaller accessories such as towel rings and soap dishes. For a bolder statement, choose more lavish fixtures like basins and washstands.

A rose gold bathroom will not only look decadent, but will add an element of warmth to your bathroom that works for all seasons. Rose gold bathroom accessories will appear sun-kissed during the warmer months and will brighten up your space during the winter.

For a subtle, elegant way to use rose gold taps and fixtures, why not make a feature shower. It will add a pop of colour and sophistication to any bathroom and provide a talking point for guests.

Showers, Showers, Showers

Showers are an important focal point of the bathroom. Choosing a shower that effortlessly meets your needs, whilst seamlessly complementing your bathroom design can be a challenge, but when you get it right your bathroom will feel fresh and stylish.

Exposed or recessed showers

These showers are exactly what they sound like – showers with controls that sit on your wall (exposed) or inside/flush with the wall (recessed).

If you’re styling a smaller bathroom, choosing a recessed shower will give the impression of more space.  All you’ll see is the control and a plate that neatly conceals the shower, creating clean lines and no visual clutter.

Exposed showers are still a popular option, and in some instances can add something extra to a bathroom design. They are easy  to install and fix in case something does go wrong which is always a bonus in a busy family bathroom.

Single or dual control showers

A single control shower will operate the flow and the temperature from one dial or lever. A dual control shower will have separate controls for each. Personal preference and what is needed for your bathroom will decide this for you.

Shower head design

When it comes to choosing a shower, the shower head will be one of your most important considerations. As well as holding aesthetic appeal, the shower head you select should meet your needs and help you transform your bathroom into your personal haven.

Styling your shower

Choosing a shower that perfectly fits your needs is about more than function. If you’re renovating a bathroom you’ve probably put a great deal of thought into everything from layout to colour schemes, and while a shower may seem like a purely functional addition, the wrong unit can throw your new aesthetic out of line.

Attention to the range of finishes on offer, either; from brushed steel to vintage-style rose gold, the material your shower is made from will help integrate it seamlessly with the rest of your bathroom.

To find your perfect shower, look for the following:

Good temperature control

Make sure your shower is compatible with your system

Think about size

When choosing a shower, remember to look at all your options and make sure you are completely happy; it’s worth spending a little extra time on the decision. As the centre of your bathroom, your shower should last you – and make you happy - for years to come.

Here at Cranleigh Bathroom Studio we can guide you through all the options. Visit the showroom or call us on 01483 272727 where we are happy to guide you through the process of design, selection and installation.

REFRESH YOUR BATHROOM FOR SPRING

Get set for Spring...

As the seasons change, so does home decorating — but while replacing a wreath on the front door every season is pretty easy, it’s not always clear how to put a spring touch on a more utilitarian space like the bathroom. The following are a few quick and easy tips which will help you transform your space into an on-trend sanctuary where you can truly escape from the stresses of life.

Spring Clean

Before redecorating, take a cue from the home tradition spring is most famous for and give your bathroom a good spring cleaning. Getting the bathroom vanity, shower, tub, toilet, tile and light fixtures in gleaming condition is a great way to make the space feel new.

Make time for a spring sort-out:

Put a spring in your step with a good old-fashioned spring clean.

Declutter your old toiletries and any empty or unwanted products, reorganise your beauty regime essentials into baskets or your vanity or storage unit to create a spacious and spa-inspired space.

Use the opportunity to deep clean your entire bathroom and reach areas that may not be included in your usual cleaning regime, such as unclogging your plug holes or cleaning your bathroom windows.

Spruce it up

Be bold with your bathroom design and switch up your styling for spring.

A splash of vibrant colour can give your bathroom an entirely new look and feel. Be bold, be brave!

Another quick and easy way to transform your bathroom without a large-scale renovation is to update your brassware. Adding statement taps to your basin instantly brings some sparkle to your space.

Consider hanging photos of green trees. Pick some hues that feel like spring to you, from lots of white to shades of green, and incorporate them into the room’s design.

Take out the dark, heavy bathmat hues that signalled winter and replace them with lighter, brighter colours for a new spring season. Brightening things up fits with the longer daylight and warmer temperatures of spring, and it turns your bathroom into a cheerier place to spend time. Do the same with your towels and shower curtains — from darks to lights — to make the room feel ready for spring.

Add a New Scent. From the hand soap at the sink to an air-freshening plugin by the counter, there are lots of ways to imbue spring smells in your bathroom to celebrate the time of year. Pick something with a clean smell to highlight what defines this season — something like rain fresh or a floral smell works well.

Bring in the outdoors

Nothing says springtime quite like lush green plants and blooming flowers.Bring the outside in by ordering some house plants or a fresh floral arrangement.

Water-loving plants such as Aloe Vera and Chinese Evergreen will thrive in bathrooms, however artificial plants are a great low maintenance alternative that can look just as effective.

For those who prefer a pop of colour, a statement vase filled with your favourite flowers can be a fabulous addition to your space.

When you want to give your bathroom a lively spring look, use the tips above to get started. Season touches are a great way to have fun with your home and make it feel more cosy and loved. From beautiful vanities to modern sinks, we have the bathroom products you need to get your room looking showroom-ready. Contact us today to learn more!

Creating That Spa Like Sanctuary

A trip to the spa leaves you feeling relaxed, pampered, and rejuvenated. The experience centres on a serene environment that's carefully designed to help you unwind and escape, and you can easily recreate that soothing atmosphere at home in your own bathroom. By incorporating calming elements, upgrading fixtures, and minimising clutter, you can achieve a spa-like bathroom that allows you to melt away stress and relax in peace. It requires only a few simple tweaks, so you don't have to take on a major bathroom remodel to create your at-home spa.

Keep it Simple - Calm lines, stylish storage and sumptuous free-standing baths say tranquil.

Creating the ultimate spa bathroom ideas are all about using key design details that add that luxurious look and choosing ‘spa’ type materials like wood, stone, bamboo and marble.

The largest but comfiest roll-top, a rainfall shower, plants, beautiful scents and oh-so-soft white fluffy towels are also essentials.

Create calmness - While boldness can go hand in hand with style, colours that are too strong are not conducive to relaxation. That’s why most spas rely on soft, muted colours and simple designs to establish a calming environment. Spa bathrooms are clutter-free too and lend themselves to those who love a minimalist approach to interiors, so storage needs to be considered as does lighting and your colour palette. If you have the time it could pay to replace any bright colour schemes with more soothing neutral hues, such as whites, greys and beige’s, to introduce a gentler backdrop. Alongside this, the introduction of earthy elements such as wood and stone, and even a few well-placed plants can accentuate the natural essence of the space and lift the overall mood.

Little luxuries

With a canvas of clean and calm now in place, it’s about the finer design details which can add that all-important luxury, spa-like appeal.

Display your luxury, fluffy towels – any spa-like staple – to full effect. Add stylish accessories such as a new soap dish and dispenser, tumbler, towel ring and even toilet roll holder can drastically elevate the aesthetic of even the simplest bathroom setup.

Mirror mirror…

As well as creating the illusion of more space, a new mirror can add a dose of glamour that draws the eye and commands attention in any bathroom.

Revel in relaxation

Now, with your spa-like sanctuary almost there, all that’s left to do is add your own personal touches.

2022 - What's In Store For Your Bathroom

2022 - What's In Store For Your Bathroom

Last year’s top bathroom trends consisted of statement and industrial style features. Bold black fittings, wall-hung bidets, and copper effect baths were also a hit, alongside modern LED mirrors.  2022 is treating us to new and exciting trends.

Green Tiles

Green tiles have been an upward trend in recent years, but with more of us opting for statement looks in bathroom designs, a glossy larger tile in striking green is an obvious winner to create the ultimate WOW factor!

Japandi Style

Japandi style has accelerated in bathroom designs worldwide. The minimalist craze featuring natural textures will most definitely continue into 2022 and beyond.

Japandi is a combination of Japanese designs with simplistic and modern features from Scandinavian styles. The look can easily be incorporated into any sized bathroom as the main focus is clean lines with a blend of matt and natural textures.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a style staple in many homes and has been for decades! However, wallpaper has become very popular within small bathrooms and cloakrooms. Thanks to its unforgettable impact, wallpaper immediately modernises and transforms any space that would normally feel small and look quite boring.

Wallpaper is available in many textures, patterns, and colours, so the world is your oyster when deciding on the perfect pick. Coordinate towels and taps for a clean and uniform effect.

Top Tip -Consider if your bathroom is exposed to a lot of water, as this will help avoid any peeling from moisture and humidity.

Brushed Brass Traditional Towel Rails

Brushed brass traditional towel rails were often only found within luxury hotel bathrooms. However, they’ve snuck into top bathroom trends of 2022 thanks to being practical and super stylish within old-fashioned-style homes.

Brushed brass traditional towel rails are not just easy on the eye. They act as a storage component, provide warmth and maintain hygiene by decreasing the chance of damp growth.

By delivering warm, snug towels after a shower or bath, traditional towel rails provide a pampering experience to enjoy every day.

Smart Toilets

As technology is an unquestionable part of our everyday lives, it's no surprise it has made its way into bathrooms. With many of us spending more time at home due to the recent pandemic, smart toilets are our pick for those wanting to get ahead on 2022 bathroom designs.

With endless beneficial features to suit your personal preferences -By having the choice of water, air, and seat temperate, the smart toilet is guaranteed to provide users with the ultimate bathroom experience.

Although smart toilets are more expensive than regular toilets, they save you time and money in the long run and provide an ultra-hygienic experience every time.

Deep Blue Tones

In the past, lighter blue tones have taken over bathrooms, such as sky blue, turquoise and baby blue. However, in recent months deeper blue has become a rising favourite due to the rich undertones that bring a glamorous feel to a bathroom.

The bright contrast of deep blue against white creates a dramatic and luxurious effect that also feels calming and mesmerising, reminding us of the ocean.

Is your home ready for 2022’s bathroom trends?

Whether you want a quick update or a full renovation, our predicted trends can help create the bathroom of your dreams.

Will bathrooms of 2022 become statement spaces or remain humble? Will traditional styles take over modern looks? At Cranleigh Bathroom Studios we are here for any advice or design tips. Bring That Festive Feel To Your Bathroom

bringthatfestivefeeltoyourbathroom

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! – We’re talking about Christmas of course. It’s the only occasion that welcomes plenty of glitter, copious amounts of twinkly lights and a sensory overload of red.

Incorporating small amounts of the festive feel into your bathroom can be achieved with simple changes that transform your bathroom into a winter wonderful that all the family will love.

If your bathroom is already on trend with brushed vintage gold fittings, then you can skip past this part. If you haven’t installed gold fittings, what are you waiting for? Vintage golds are taking over bathroom interiors by storm. They’re charming character, will give your bathroom a luxury feel and can be paired with almost any colour scheme.

Sprinkle Christmas aesthetics around the room by changing up your towel scheme to a beautiful bold red. For the extra Christmas vibe we opted for a gorgeous red towel with Christmas trees prints. Christmas candles are a great addition to bathrooms during the dark winter evenings. Find a style which suits your bathroom, such as a snow coloured white candle or a metallic candle to match your tinsel. There are also many candles available with Christmas scents, which will ensure you create a truly festive feel.

When it comes to choosing your ornaments, go for golds! Put away the greenery and replace them with holly or branch lights. Branch lights will give your bathroom that twinkly Christmas look, that the whole family will enjoy.

Shelves can be used as a holiday vignette. Turn your attention to accessorising them with holiday cheer. Mix tabletop decorations and other festive accents for the ultimate holiday shelfie.

You can go the extra Christmas mile, by adding a wreath on your bathroom door or a poinsettia plant which will add a splash of colour to your bathroom. If looking after another plant doesn’t appeal to you, a sprig of mistletoe or a vase of pinecones will create a similar feel.

Consider swapping your shower curtain for one that matches this magical season and ta da! – a perfect festive bathroom!

Everyone at Cranleigh Bathroom Studios would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

Creating Elegance - Bathroom Fixtures

Creating Elegance

If you have spent time and money creating your perfect new bathroom, choosing furniture, baths and gorgeous new bathroom colour schemes, you can’t neglect making the perfect finishing touches to your bathroom. Luxury bathroom fixtures like taps and showers give you a beautiful finish. Read on for more on creating elegance by choosing the perfect luxury bathroom fixtures for you.

High-quality luxury bathroom fixtures usually means better quality. Research taps to make sure that they easily withstand heavy use and the same with showers.

Show-stopping elegant bathroom fixtures

Think differently with show-stopping elegant bathroom fixtures, choose elegant bathroom fixtures that will stand out. Distinctively individual pieces like limited editions are made to be artistic finishing touches that help to create a look that is really your own. Bring something different to your bathroom décor with an intricate design.

For showers, choosing unexpected colours like the dark, elegant blue  with midnight blue handles can add an element of surprise and interest to the overall look of your bathroom. Don’t be afraid to be bold with colour, even with luxury bathroom fixtures like these – more colour gives you the opportunity to play even more creatively with your colour scheme.

A commonplace feature in many luxury bathrooms, heated towel radiators not only offer warmth but a place to hang your towels tastefully.

But rather than opting for a conventional towel warmer in a standard white or chrome scheme, why not add Art Deco opulence to your master bathroom with a metallic gold or brass finish?

Alternatively, choose a high-end style that deviates away from the traditional ladder style. This might look like a set of towel rings or a curvier s-shaped design.

Large shower heads create a dramatic effect and allow you to shower your worries away every morning beneath a crystalline cascade of warm water. Smaller but equally stylish shower fixtures are wonderful for bathrooms that have less space.

If you have a freestanding bath,  pair with freestanding mixer taps can be a truly wonderful way to create elegance yet in an unexpected way to draw the relaxing bath of your dreams. Essentially a tall tap that sits beside your bath to fill it, these beautifully statuesque fixtures make a real statement.

If you love the traditional look, and are searching for the elegance of traditionally-styled luxury bathroom fixtures, so many options are available to you. There are a variety of ranges of tap and shower fittings that transmit a sophisticated, more traditional glamour. Others offers classic rounded cross handles in glistening chrome or vintage gold, echoing the opulence of the Victorian era.

Pair traditional tap or shower fixtures with bathroom furniture and suites that call to mind the same feel.

Discover a wide variety stunning taps and showers, as well as many gorgeous suites and much more by visiting Cranleigh Bathroom Studio or call 01483 272727

Keeping Your Bathroom in Top Condition

keepingyourbathroomintopcondition

As one of the busiest rooms in the house, it doesn’t take long for the bathroom to get messy and become a hot spot for mould, grime and bacteria to build up. With that in mind, cleaning the bathroom can quickly become a dreaded chore, especially as a quick wipe with an anti-bacterial wipe is unlikely to make much of a difference.

If you’ve got the bathroom cleaning blues or if you’re looking for effective cleaning advice, then we’ve got all the tips you need to make cleaning the bathroom a doddle.

Let the air circulate

Bathrooms and moisture go hand in hand, but so do moisture and most mucky bathroom problems, such as mould and mildew. Keep moisture under control by opening the window, or using the extractor fan when you take a shower and for 15 to 25 minutes afterwards. This allows the steam to dissipate and helps excess moisture to dry up.

If your bathroom does not have a window you will need an extractor fan in order to meet building regulations too, and if you’re interested in a wet room this will be an essential investment.

Keep a lid on it

We all know that age-old argument about putting the toilet seat down, but what about the lid? Closing the lid every time you flush is often completely forgotten about. This is a common bad habit and changing it can be key to keeping your bathroom both clean and hygienic.

Leaving the toilet lid open when you flush can allow bacteria and tiny water particles to spray across the room. Simply flip the lid down when you flush, and you’ll keep the bacteria contained, and the rest of the bathroom a much more hygienic space.Soft-close seats have a soft closing hinge to allow the lid to close without slamming.

unsplash-image-qCqorWDsX5U.jpg

Best brush practice

Toothbrushes can create a lot of mess, leaving trails of toothpaste on the basin, vanity unit and other surfaces. Storing toothbrushes in an upright position is more hygienic rather than laying them flat on surfaces.

A toothbrush holder or ceramic cup is ideal. If you store your toothbrushes in a glass or cup, be sure to rinse it with hot soapy water once a week, or blitz it in the dishwasher.

Hidden grime spots

Perhaps one of the reasons that cleaning the bathroom is one of the most dreaded household chores is because there are so many different areas that need attention. However, giving the tub, basin, shower and loo regular wipe-downs with hot soapy water can go a long way to keeping the bathroom clean, so it’s well worth focusing your attention on these often overlooked germ-traps during the weekly clean.

The right fixtures

Some bathroom products are made with ease of cleaning in mind, so look out for ones that will make your task simpler. Wall hung toilets, basins and bidets give you better access to all those tricky-to-reach spots, meaning you can keep them squeaky clean without too much effort. Back to wall toilets are great for eliminating potential dirt traps. Choosing your fixtures wisely can help you keep your bathroom as spotless as possible.

Surfaces

From window sills to units and shelves, all surfaces can pick up grime and bacteria. A swift wipe-down with a spray or anti-bacterial cleaner will keep the germs away.

Shower curtain

Mildew and mould can be a nightmare to remove from shower curtains and liners. A warm wash will rinse it clean for plastic and fabric curtains, as long as they’re machine washable. For fabric curtains simply follow the instructions on the care label, whereas plastic curtains or liners can be washed on a high temperature with your usual detergent.

As mildew is prone to staining, curtains can still appear grubby even after washing. As the old saying goes, prevention is better than the cure, so regularly running it through the washing machine will rinse away soap scum and other grime, preventing a mildew build-up.

The right scrubs and sprays

There are lots of cleansers and cleaners available on the market, but not all cleansers are right for every material in your bathroom. Most multi-surface cleaners are fine for cleaning shelves, surfaces, handles and any other nooks and crannies in and around the bathroom. Additionally, it’s a common misconception that one type of cleanser is fine for use all over the bathroom. Different areas of the bathroom will require different products.

Tub

For cleaning your tub, ensure that the cleanser you’re using isn’t abrasive, as this can cause damage to the material. Generally speaking, the best thing to use for cleaning your bath is hot soapy water and a soft sponge.

Mirrors

Use glass cleaner on mirrors, windows, and other reflective surfaces to give them back their shine. Multi-surface sprays and other cleaners will most likely smear across the surface – usually making the glass appear dirtier than it was originally!

Tiles and grout

Because tiles are made from different materials, not all cleansers are appropriate for use. It is therefore important to check what type of cleanser will be most effective on your tiles. Natural stone, such as travertine, can be quite porous and is vulnerable to marks or damage by abrasive cleaners.

Specially formulated grout cleaners are ideal for getting the grime out of your tile grout. Alternatively, a steam cleaner can be a chemical-free option for removing dirt.

Cleaning your bathroom doesn’t need to be a big job. In fact, doing so little and often is more likely to prevent dirt from building up, resulting in an epic deep clean. What’s more, regular mini-cleans ensure the space stays hygienic and germ free too!

Add A Splash Of Colour

Add A Splash Of Colour

The bathroom is the place where most of us kick start our mornings and wind down at night – so it’s important to create a space that not only looks beautiful but also makes you feel good.

When deciding on what colours to use in your bathroom, you should first consider how you want to feel in your space. Do you want to create a sanctuary where you can relax at the end of a long day, or a place that you can emerge from each morning feeling energised and raring to go?

 Romantic Pinks

According to colour psychology, pink evokes feelings of nurture, love and femininity – perfect for introducing some romance into your space. The colour is both soothing and aesthetically pleasing, making it a great choice for creating a tranquil and relaxing space.

Sophisticated Greys

If you’re looking to make a statement with your bathroom design but find bright colours intimidating to work with, dark shades of grey are a great alternative and exude sleek sophistication.

When grey or black is used on an accent wall, consider breaking it up with wall panelling This makes the perfect backdrop for a statement centrepiece like our matte black freestanding Osterley bath

Rejuvenating Greens

Traditionally a calm and relaxing shade, green is often described by colour consultants as being balanced, harmonious and refreshing.

Because of its connotations with the natural world, green is also the perfect colour for bringing the outdoors in – making it great for city homes with very little surrounding greenery.

Soothing Yellows

Vibrant yellow is unsurprisingly connected with feelings of joy, optimism, and energy. Emulating the warmth of sunlight, a splash of yellow will evoke positivity in your home all year round.

Whether you opt for a darker mustard shade or a splash of sherbet lemon, introducing yellow into your bathroom colour palette will instantly brighten up the space and enhance your mood.

If you’re not sure how to incorporate this colour into your bathroom, why not start by introducing some yellow accessories? Or, for fans of bold design, go all out with a statement yellow wallpaper.

Soft Neutrals

White and neutral tones never go out of style, and this classic bathroom colour palette is both versatile and mood-enhancing.

Depending on the undertone, white can either be soft and relaxing or striking and crisp.

A popular choice amongst interior designers – light-reflecting whites also help a space look more open and airy, creating the ultimate spa like setting.

Tranquil Blues

According to colour psychology, blue instils a feeling of calm and tranquillity in the home – which makes it a great choice for spaces where you want to relax.

Similarly, teals and turquoises can add a sense of rejuvenation, helping you to reinvigorated when you step into your bathroom.

Whatever colours you choose to use in your bathroom, the possibilities are endless.  Cranleigh Bathroom Studios are here to advise and suggest on what is currently on trend - pop in or give us a call on 01483 272727.

Small Bathroom - Big Ideas

Small Bathrooms, Big Ideas

unsplash-image-3U3ewJhFs0k.jpg

GO MINIMALIST

This one tip goes a long way and while it’s good advice for any bathroom, it’s especially useful for bathrooms where there isn’t an abundance of space. Having too much stuff in your bathroom not only impacts the internal space, but can make it appear messier than it really is.

Bathrooms can be clutter magnets, from daily use along with a high volume of household traffic, it’s no wonder that bathrooms can become very messy, very quickly. Going minimalist means only storing the items you really need in your bathroom – this way, you can really make the most of your storage – ensuring everything you need in the bathroom has a home.

You could start by having a sort through the items in the bathroom – be ruthless, if it doesn’t need to be in there then find another place for it in the house!

REAP THE BENEFITS OF FITTED FURNITURE

Speaking of storage, no bathroom can go without it and if you’re going minimalist, then you’ll certainly need somewhere to store those must-have bathroom products and items. In spaces that are a touch on the small side, finding sufficient storage (and somewhere for it to go) can feel a bit like solving a puzzle.

Fitted and built-in furniture can be a great solution for snug spaces. Up tightly against the wall, fitted furniture can help to create a neat and streamlined space. Numerous pieces of bulky freestanding furniture in a small bathroom can make the space look and feel smaller.

LET THE LIGHT IN

Creating the illusion of space in a small bathroom is key to opening up the room and helping it to feel bigger and brighter.

A large mirror is a great idea for windowless bathrooms, helping to properly illuminate the room by reflecting light from the light-fittings. Even if you’ve got a window that allows natural light into the room, it’s still well worth investing in a large mirror to bounce the light around and open up the space.

Bathrooms can be tricky to light as the numerous fittings can cause shadows, so the more light you can invite into the space, the brighter and larger it will appear. It’s well worth exploring the different ways to sufficiently illuminate your space.

Getting the lighting scheme right not only makes the room appear more spacious, but can also make the space much more functional by ensuring there’s sufficient light where you need it most.

unsplash-image-MqNyusb_ne4.jpg

MAKE SPACE-SAVING REPLACEMENTS

It might also be worth considering replacing your existing fittings with specially designed, space-saving equivalents. Wall-hung basins and toilets will increase the footprint of the space as the absence of the pedestal frees up floor space.

Slim-line or corner basins can be an ideal option for opening up the room, as these space-saving fittings fit snugly into the room without negatively impacting limited space. Designed for small bathrooms, a short projection loo can help save on space as the toilet bowl doesn’t protrude into the room. You can also find units that provide you with extra room as well as concealing all the pipes.

Another multi-functional, space-saving item is the shower bath. If you don’t have enough room for both a bath and a shower, you don’t need to sacrifice one or the other – you can have the shower mounted over your bath and get the best of both worlds.

Large bathrooms are rare, but small bathrooms can sometimes feel almost impossible to live with. With a few organisational hacks, a bit of design savvy and some lighting tweaks, your small bathroom will look and feel more spacious. Having everything in the right place will not only make the room appear neat and tidy, but it will be a pleasure to use every day, too!

Summer Bathrooms

Summer Bathrooms

Imagine it: glittering sunshine on an aquamarine sea, a refreshing breeze on a hot summer’s day, an invigorating dip in crystal clear waters. There is, quite simply, nothing quite like a coastal retreat to bring a sense of tranquillity and rejuvenation.

Whether you’re looking for summer bathroom ideas or simply love design inspired by a seemingly endless stretch of sparkling ocean, we’re here to help you create a bathroom reminiscent of tranquil days under the hot summer sun.

Your colour palette:

For many, the starting point for any new bathroom design is choosing a colour palette. If you’d love to create a coastal bathroom inspired by the sea, the right hues are absolutely key in creating a tranquil space. Shades of blue, teal and aquamarine mirror the ever-changing colours of the ocean - and look particularly striking when balanced with bright whites. If you prefer, use darker and lighter shades of your chosen colour on different walls to create depth and interes

Choosing wallpaper:

Statement wallpaper can be an eye-catching way to transport your bathroom to hotter climes too. Palm leaf prints in cool tones can create an exquisite focal point for your space and are a great way to bring in a fresh and on-trend feel to your sea-themed bathroom.

Statement-making tiles

Tiles, while practical, can also transform your space to create a real sense of beauty. To make a high impact statement, run tiles across the floor and up onto the walls. Alternatively, invoke an authentic feel by alternating patterned tiles and plain tiles to give a gloriously hop-scotch effect, reminiscent of Mediterranean village squares. If you’re looking for something a little different, try choosing scalloped-edge tiles. These unique tiles look exquisite and give a real sense of the sea.

Whichever ocean-hued shades you choose, the key to the Mediterranean aesthetic is fresh tones, clean lines and refreshing design.

A hint of Mediterranean flair in your furnishings

Once you’ve chosen your colour palette, it’s time to decide on furnishings. The focal point of any bathroom, your bathroom suite has a significant impact on the overall look and feel of your sea-themed space.

Accessorise with ocean bathroom décor

The finishing touches are the perfect way to add extra flair to your sea-themed bathroom. Dress your space with accessories that add to the tranquillity and restfulness of your design.

Bring nature indoors

Bring to mind the memory of sun-drenched landscapes with purposefully chosen indoor plants. Plants add a wonderful sense of nature to your space and help to create that feeling of calm. Cacti and succulent plants are a great choice when creating your Mediterranean bathroom and can look even more striking when potted in patterned or glass tumblers.

Choose coloured glass
When choosing your ocean bathroom décor, mirror the look of sunlight shimmering on water by choosing coloured glass tumblers, vases and ornaments. Think about placing your coloured glass on window sills when dressing your bathroom. Here, they’ll catch the light beautifully and create stunning reflections across your room.

Add natural ornamentation

The Mediterranean aesthetic is all about bringing the beauty of hotter climes into your home. To help you create a fresh-yet-natural look in your bathroom, consider adding hints of natural ornamentation to your space. Different textures, like interesting pebbles or shells, can help to add depth and ocean inspiration to your bathroom.

April Showers

Choosing the right shower for you

water-3176092_960_720.jpg

APRIL SHOWERS

WHICH SHOWER SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Whether your bathroom is your personal oasis or at the centre of family life, there’s little doubt that your shower will be an important focal point. Choosing a shower that effortlessly meets your needs whilst seamlessly complementing your bathroom design can be a challenge, but when you get it right your bathroom will feel fresh and stylish for years.

We’ve put together a guide on how to choose a shower, the types of shower you should look for, and how to select one that complements your style.

Exposed or recessed showers?

These showers are exactly what they sound like – showers with controls that sit on your wall (exposed) or inside/flush with the wall (recessed).

If you’re styling a smaller bathroom, choosing a recessed (or concealed) shower will help give the feeling of more space. All you’ll see is the control and a plate that neatly conceals the shower, reducing visual clutter. Even if you have a vast oasis at your disposal, these types of showers lend themselves perfectly to minimalist and Scandi-style designs, where clean lines are a must. To make things a little easier, Heritage concealed valves are designed to fit into the smallest wall cavities, requiring only 35mm depth.  It’s still worth checking with your plumber before you purchase one though to ensure that it will be suitable for your wall.

Exposed showers are still a popular option, and in some instances can add something extra to a bathroom design. They’re also easier to install and fix in case something does go wrong, which may prove useful for busy family bathrooms.

unsplash-image-9K-rMgWLCYM.jpg

Single or dual control showers?

unsplash-image-NxC7rYdApZA.jpg

Choosing your controls is a matter of personal preference. A single control shower will operate the flow and the temperature from one dial or lever. A dual control shower will have separate controls for each. Ask yourself where the controls would sit, what would be easiest for you to use, and which options come with the shower you want.

Which shower head: fixed, handset, or both?

When it comes to choosing a shower, the showerhead will be one of your most important considerations. As well as holding aesthetic appeal, the shower head you select should meet your needs and help you transform your bathroom into your personal haven.

Fixed shower heads are permanently secured to the wall or the ceiling. Alternatively, they may be attached with a rigid riser/fixed kit, where a pipe leads from the shower valve and control unit to the fixed head. Types of fixed shower head include rain showerheads, which are perfect for creating a home spa experience.

Handsets, on the other hand, are fixed to a rail and can be moved up or down depending on the height you want; it’s also very easy to control the direction of the water. They are attached to the shower control unit with a flexible pipe and can be removed for ultimate manoeuvrability. These types of showerhead may be ideal for families where everyone has a different preference. To help make sure you find the perfect match, Heritage handsets and rails are sold together as shower kits.

Styling your shower

Of course, choosing a shower that perfectly fits your needs is about more than function. If you’re renovating a bathroom you’ve probably put a great deal of thought into everything from layout to colour schemes, and while a shower may seem like a purely functional addition, the wrong unit can throw your new aesthetic out of line.
Designers are paying increasing attention to shower designs, opening the door to more choices. The growing trend for industrial chic is reflected in beautifully designed exposed outlet showers, while concealed valves will unobtrusively lend themselves to an array of styles.

Shower buying guide

To find your perfect shower, look for the following:

Good temperature control

When buying a shower, make sure the temperature is easy to control so you can find your perfect level. Heritage showers are thermostatic, and set at 42-53 degrees. Even in the event of a cold water supply failure, Heritage showers will maintain a safe temperature.

Make sure your shower is compatible with your system

All homes are different, and some showers may not be suitable for your hot water system. Before choosing a shower, ask your plumber which types of shower will deliver the best results in your bathroom.

Think about size

Larger shower heads won’t necessarily give you a stronger, or better, flow of water. If you have low water pressure a large shower head may result in a disappointingly weak flow. Choose your shower head based on your water pressure and your plumber’s advice to help ensure you get the perfect end result.

Check water efficiency

Heritage has joined the Bathroom Manufacturers Association’s Water Label Scheme to help people save water.  To check how much water our showers use, just click on a product and select Water Label.  If you see a high flow rate with a red background the shower uses more water but provides a drenching experience.  If you see a low flow rate with a green background, the shower has been optimised for water efficiency.  You can reduce water usage on most showers by installing a flow limiter - speak to your plumber to find out more.

A Rich History

Roca is a Spanish company that began by making cast iron radiators for domestic heating in its factories near Barcelona. They then expanded their portfolio with the production of boilers. In 1929, they entered the bathroom business by starting a production of baths.

  • The company has a vast collection of awards to show for their popularity and quality. This year, Roca received the Best in Show award for the new Horizon basins collection, designed by the architect João Armentano, in the basins category. Last year, they accumulated 5 awards, the most notable being at the 2019 BKU Awards, winning Best Sanitaryware Brand for the second year running.

Innovation

Roca is big on innovation, and one of its premises is the conviction that technological innovation constitutes an essential element for achieving progressive development and permanent improvement in any activity. For this reason, the company uses state-of-the-art technology in every phase of the production process. Their technological innovation aims to give its customers the best possible service, as its R&D&I departments analyse the needs and tastes of society to adapt the company’s products to new market conditions, with the aim of improving people's quality of life.

Their passion for innovation and commitment to environmental protection has led them to the development of solutions for saving water and energy. One of these is the ‘cold start’ tap, which as their website explains: is an innovative tap system that turns on the faucet with cold water. The opening of the lever to the right is blocked, which is why water flows cold from the front opening position. If the lever is turned towards the left, water obtained will be gradually hotter. This way, there are not only water savings, but also in energy, since we prevent the heater from firing up the heater when it’s not necessary.
